Sito Preistorico di Notarchirico
\n\tLa presenza delle prime comunità umane nel bacino di Venosa, risale al Paleolitico Superiore (circa 600.000 anni fa), le cui tracce rinvenute attestano segni di vita nel territorio, sin dai tempi della Preistoria.<\/p>\n
Gli studi hanno fatto emergere una serie di resti faunistici tra i quali una vertebra e un frammento di mandibola d'elefante.<\/p>\n
Di notevole importanza è il ritrovamento di un cranio di Elephas antiquus, recuperato mediante un'operazione di scavi fatti intorno al 1990, e il resto più antico mai rinvenuto nel meridione d'Italia, un femore umano frammentario fossilizzato, di origine femminile "Homo erectus".<\/p>\n
I ritrovamenti e gli studi sono stati fatti dall'Istituto Italiano di Paleontologia Umana e dal Museo di Antropologia di Monaco<\/p>\n
